Microsoft offering MSN search logs for academic study February 9, 2006
(Visited 17377 times)Microsoft Live Labs is offering MSN search logs and enhanced API access in the Accelerating Search in Academic Research 2006 program. This is a request for proposals for the academe to enhance research and publication in search. Microsoft is funding projects worth $35,000 on the average.
The research project can be related to SEO since the log excerpts will be made available. However, these may not be used for profit as is. Instead, they can be used to develop new optimization techniques based on relevant data.
I think local universities can make use of this opportunity, especially since salaries and other …

(Visited 18533 times)What do search engines read? Do they see the exact same thing as we see websites?Search engines see text, and they do not see images. Bear this in mind for two main things.
Now coming up with a tutorial on how to do things would take me all day. Let …
GBuy: Moving to Pay per Conversion?
(Visited 9345 times)PayPal Prepares For a Challenge From Google shows that the Google payments play is serious. From many accounts it seems that Google wants to beyond Pay Per Click and into Pay Per Conversion. The most feasible way of doing this is handling the payment.
What does this mean for the Pinoy publisher? For casual players, not good. If more advertisers opt to pay per conversion, then the effects will be worse than Smart Pricing. Pinoy publishers will not be paid at all if Pinoy viewers click but don’t buy. On the other hand, I think it is good for the …
Amazon-Sense: Good for Pinoys? February 6, 2006
(Visited 8072 times)Chris Beasley writes about Amazon-Sense. While there are no details announced yet, this may be good news for Pinoy publishers.
If the program is like their existing gift certificate program, you can spend the amount on Amazon goods anytime you want. No need to wait for $100 to accrue, the check to arrive in the mail (or spend extra through DHL), and for your bank to clear the draft. If you’re a developer, you could even spend it on paid Amazon Web Services for building your apps.
Of course that’s no good if you need cash, so perhaps you should strike …
Google’s Censorship in China January 27, 2006
(Visited 8398 times)Google’s decision to censor results in China has become a floodgate of protests–a scenario that’s almost like Edsa II, only that you cannot really impeach a search engine, can you?
Since the controversial news, we’ve seen bloggers discontinuing google ads, displeased civil rights groups, outraged Tibetans, students rallying in protest, logo-making contests of sorts (how creative) and well, countless disappointed people, not only in China, but around the globe.
Which makes one wonder, when Google agreed to comply with the Chinese government in censoring the web for Chinese users, did they anticipate such clamor?
Andrew McLaughlin, Google’s senior policy counsel, speaks up.
“We know that many …
Trafik, anyone? January 26, 2006
(Visited 10472 times)Face it. Filipinos may be good conversationalists but when it comes to spelling, we are mentally challenged. With a native tongue that’s evolved from tagalog to taglish, combined with the emergence of sms language (we won’t be called the “number one texting country” for nothing, would we?), our vocabulary has turned into a mesh of mispelled words.
I know, I know. Filipinos are not really ashamed of this little known detail, in fact, we’re most likely to dismiss it with a laugh. But hey, now we can laugh about it and turn it to our advantage at the same time.
Aaron Wall calls spelling errors an advanced SEO technique. Apparently, he’s not ashamed …
